This week at my office, I was reminded of the importance of self awareness. I was at my desk, minding my own business when I noticed a poster that was in my office. It was the first day of class and it was titled “Self-Awareness” and had a video of a man walking around a campus and talking about his own self-awareness.
It’s funny how we always think we’re in control of our surroundings, but in reality we’re not. This reminds me of a famous quote by the late Malcolm Gladwell, who, in one of his many books, The Tipping Point, says, “The more you can control the world around you, the less control you have.” This is a theme that we’ll be revisiting in the weeks ahead.
I think that it is safe to say that we are much more likely to act in ways that are not in our control than to act in ways that are. After all, when you’re in control, you don’t want to make a mistake and get caught. Also, the more you can control the people around you, the less control you have over your actions. That’s why control is a good thing.
In our current society, the idea that control is a good thing is at the center of the idea of “power.” It has become a dirty word or a badge of honor. When I think of “power” I think of power to control, not power to control. I think of power to control your money, your life, your decisions, and your ability to create.
To the people who say that control is a good thing, I say, “If you can’t control your money, then you can’t control anything.” Money is just a tool. It can be used for good or for bad, but the fact is it can be used for good. It is a tool, like any other tool. Like any other tool, you can use it for good or bad.
This, my friend, is the biggest con to the “control, not power to control” mentality. People who feel that they can control everything seem to forget that they can’t control their money, their money is just a tool. And since we can’t control our money, then we can’t control our life, we can’t control our choices, and we can’t control the ability to create.

Its her job to show you how to put your money to work by buying houses and cars. She doesn’t have much free time though, because she works all of the time. She spends her time on her business, and she makes a nice living.
